A much shorter version of our traditional Passover Seder, but don’t worry, we are still going to go through the essence of the Seder: Kiddush, The Four Questions, We Were Slaves, Four Children, Ten Plagues ect….Hold on to your Matzahs! We are now going to bless the holiday of Passover together!

Blessing Over the Candles

Baruch Atah Ado-nai, Elo-heinu Melech Ha-olam, Asher Kid’shanu

B’mitzvotav V’tzivanu L’hadlik Ner Shel Yom Tov.

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has

sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us that

we kindle the Yom Tov (Holiday) lights.

Blessing Over the Wine

Ba-ruch a-tah A-do-nai, E-lo-hey-nu Me-lech ha-o-lam,
Bo-rey p’-ri ha-ga-fen.

Praised are you, Adonai our God, Ruler of the universe, who creates the fruit of the vine.

Four questions:
1. What's up with the matzoh?

When we left Egypt, we were in a hurry. There was no time for making decent bread.

2. What's the deal with horseradish?

Life was bitter, like horseradish.

3. What's with the dipping of the herbs?

It's called symbolism.

4. What's this whole slouching at the table business?

Free people get to slouch.

God sent Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh to ask for the release of His people so that they could worship Him freely. Initially Pharaoh refused and Moses demonstrated God’s powerby turning Aaron’s staff into a serpent.
The  10 plagues are punishments on Pharaoh and Egypt for not allowing God’s people, Israel, to go free from slavery. Pharaoh was demonstrating his power over the Israelites and questioning, “Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.”

Blood – turn all water into blood; plague lasted a week.  Egyptians had to dig wells for fresh water

Frogs – they overran the country.  Frogs were found in the beds, kitchens and bedrooms

Lice – consumed all the Egyptians

Flies – affected the land

Cattle – all the cattle of the Egyptians died

Boils – skin disease

Hail – mixture of hail and fire.  It destroyed many crops, killed people and animals

Locust – they ate all the rest of the crops and trees not destroyed by the hail

Darkness – darkness lasted three days, however the Israelites had light in their homes

Death of the Firstborn - The tenth and final plague was the death of the firstborn of all the people and animals
